Finally, after struggling with Blogger all day, we can post today's blog! It was actually sunny and ten degrees at 12 o'clock when we got down here- no need for hat or gloves today!
So, to celebrate the balmy weather, Frankie decided to have afternoon tea!
We did manage to spot some signs of spring already- I'm not sure what the first little 'shoots' are but the second ones are snowdrops and the third ones are rhodedendron buds.
There was a lot of people down here today- we did hear some American accents mixed in with the English, and there was plenty of activity inside the Abbey ruins too!
The wet ground is heaven for blackbirds but it also seems to be encouraging a lot of mole activity. Every time we come down here the molehills have multiplied again, which must be damaging to the actual Abbey lawns.
I was looking at this part of the ruin and thinking about the view from the monks' bedroom window. The dorms were above the foodstore, and one line of windows looked out onto the cloister lawns. I wonder what they were thinking early on those cold winter mornings as they looked out of their bedroom window before descending for the first church service of the day- it was about 3am I think!
It did go quite dark at 2pm, so we went home, and now, at 5.30pm it is pouring again. Last day of the holidays tomorrow, and I hope Blogger is fixed by then- it's taken me ages to post today!
