3rd January, 2013

Ten thirty on a sunny January morning..... we thought we'd be the only people down here, but there was plenty of activity, and Abbey Mill was already open!
We had heard that some American's were down here yesterday, talking to the lady from Abbey Mill, and saying they followed our blog as a way of keeping in touch with Barrow, so hello to everyone from around the world who has roots in our town, especially our very old friends in Australia and Canada!
We crept up on this jay having a sneaky feed from the cottage bird table- unusual for a bird this size. It did look very ungainly!

Our little friend is never far from us now...hoping for a few crumbs!

This farmer was vey busy the whole time we were down today, fetching hay bails and delivering them somewhere. I was watching a TV program the other day about the way farmers livelihoods have suffered because of the wet weather. It was heartbreaking to watch them plough away fields of rotted crops, which ofetn represented 50% of their income for that year. There should be some kind of government payout for them in extreme cases, and I would be happy to see some of the money I pay in tax go to them to tide them over.

I wonder if people jetting off all over the world realise that we are down here at the Abbey watching them go...??
Poor Frankie! A few more days and he will be back at school...!
