19th January 2013

No need for wellies down here today- the previously muddy ground is frozen solid! The temperature was zero degrees Celsius at twelve noon, and a few tiny snow flakes were falling. It felt very bleak and cold.

There wasn't much bird life around, but we did spot one of the blue jays resting in the trees around by the railway cottage earlier in the week. And this poor, cold wood pigeon trying to keep warm!

Life for farmers continues whatever the weather. I'm sure it's not a glamorous life, like it used to look on Emmerdale Farm!

The trains to and from Barrow seem to be unaffected by the weather, although we noticed this one was empty, as it went past us at the railway crossing.
The water in this little sub-river seems to be flowing again, but it is pretty low now, compared to when it over-flowed that banking a few weeks ago.
Still plenty of people down here, dog-walking and sipping tea outside Abbey Mill! We had family come up and visit yesterday from Crawley Down, and they commented that Barrovians now looked like Russians, wrapped up against the baltic winds........ out door gear is more 'designer' down south!!
