1st January, 2013.

We thought we'd have a quiet walk in the sunshine this morning, so got to the Abbey at 11am. It was very busy- half of Barrow must have had the same idea! The car park, walkways and cafe were full, with everyone enjoying a bit of sunshine and cold but DRY blustery air!
Our little Christmas friend was following us this morning, every since we took some suet crumbs down to feed it the other day. The robin in our garden guards all our bird feeders, and will allow sparrows and coal tits to feed but if the bullfinch comes in for a few sunflower seeds, the robin dive-bombs it until it gives up! I can't work out why it dislikes the bullfinch so much??
People everywhere today so not much chance of seeing any interesting wildlife, but we did see Tom, having his bacon butty in the Abbey Mill cafe!

The Abbey buildings look so nice in this light, it is easy to forget just how damaging the weather has been to them in the past few months(and beyond). I think some people from English Heritage  are down here on Friday for discussions about the up keep of buildings if the flooding continues. Mr. Hillman has supplied them with some of his recent photos to show what went on during the floods.

What a lovely way to spend the first day of the new year!
