29th June, 2014...What a week...!

We really should have slept the weekend away....so should anyone who works at Greengate! But we didn't, so we came down here for an early lunch...along with everyone else!!

Zoom in and spot the Greengaters...plenty here today!!

So, the event.........all I can say is WOW!!

I think it's fair to say that Greengate was transported back to June 1914 for the day!

Superb support from everyone involved with our school, so thanks once again! And special thanks to Wedgie for her re telling of the WW1 Papa Picky Story...kids were enthralled (so was I)!

Frankie's new hobby is taking rather unattractive 'selfies'!

Strange to see a chicken running along the railway lines down here...I doubt it's still alive by now!

We did see a shy grey squirrel hiding in this beech tree too, but the tree itself is in a bit of a state...what is that?

Everything green and lush down here at the moment...we are invading with 50 children on Thursday for a treat day, so don't come down here for tranquillity that day!

And to finish with, a lovely view from St.Mary's Walney, yesterday's SteveHillmanPhotography wedding venue. Congrats to Jessica and Peter!

22nd June, 2014...Adonia visits the port of Barrow!

What superb weather we are having at the moment....near perfect temperatures and a cooling breeze...why would anyone want to go abroad (can't get a passport now anyway!).

Frankie coming out in support of football at the moment...can't think why...our footballers are over paid and think they are celebrities instead of sportsmen...far better to support rugby or tennis. I watched some superb sportsmanship on Friday evening...Barrow Girls Football Trials! Whoever is saying that state schools need to increase their levels of competitive sport so that British athletes don't always come from the private education sector needs to look at the TRUE picture of what is happening 'sportswise' in our schools!

Had fun in the forest with our year six kids and team this week and they were VERY competitive...especially the teachers!

We went down to the docks this morning to look at the P&O Cruise ship Adonia, that was in berth for 24 hours...what an impressive sight!

Couldn't drag the SteveHillmanPhotography camera away....the wedding that was booked for this weekend cancelled a few months ago so he was kicking his heels, not earning his keep!

We spoke to a lovely guy down here, who piloted the cruiser in last evening, and he explained how the gate system works... she is sailing back out tonight after 7pm and will be passing Roa island just after that...we will be there!

That area of the docks is a prime site for some waterfront apartments, shops, cafes etc to be built, but it isn't quite there yet.....it's a stunning area that gets forgotten because of all our other fantastic attractions...better start saving up!

Haytiming seems to have started early this year....the heat and the birdsong reminds me of.....

 Only reapers, reaping early
In among the bearded barley,
Hear a song that echoes cheerly
From the river winding clearly,
Down to tower'd Camelot:
And by the moon the reaper weary,
Piling sheaves in uplands airy,
Listening, whispers "
'Tis the fairy
Lady of Shalott."

Remember that, all you BGGS students out there!

Look at that beautiful sky...hope it lasts until AFTER our WW1 event on Thursday!

It's the little things that matter, isn't it...someone said something to me this week that picked me right back up off the floor and made me realise that I AM strong enough to ignore the destructive people out there....

....thank you that person!

15th June, 2014...Vintage outfits at the ready...!

It's been a hot and humid weekend...lovely weather for an Abbey walk!

Frankie has taken to wearing his vintage Vans for walking!

Talking of vintage...not long now until our World War 1 commemoration event, so we were thrilled to find out that the Dock Museum were hosting another Vintage Fair....and off we all headed to find our outfits!!

The girl singing vintage songs was excellent...we didn't find out who she was?

And after much searching (and lunch) we found what we were looking for!!

Thanks to Grace for her impeccable taste!A not vintage, but BRAND NEW Ferrari at Abbey House yesterday for the weekly wedding!

It was lovely at the Dock Museum....yachts were heading out to sail around Walney and Jubilee Bridge was raised....it was the first time Frankie has seen it raised in his 11 and three quarter years in Barrow! He was very impressed!

Beezer annual....remember that!!! And I loved Judy, especially 'The Four Marys' about the girls boarding school...bullies were always portrayed with angry, scrunched up faces...easy to spot in those days!!

Can't beat an Abbey Mill hot chocolate though!

A week of Forest Schools and Piel Island trips to work on this week.....I wonder who will still be standing on Friday!!

8th June, 2014...phew...a one-day lull in weddings!

That has been a busy fortnight....everybody wants an end of May/start of June wedding, although the weather has been far from perfect!

Beautiful today though! SteveHillmanPhotography has been all over in the past two weeks...here is a selection of venues!

Yes folks, that is a cow shed...it's near Kirkby, and was a unique venue for yesterday's wedding....wet, but great fun by the looks of it! Congrats to all those brides and grooms... our wedding was in Barrow registry office and then my mum and dad's dining room!

Nothing quite like the English countryside...look at that sky.... families were out in force at Abbey Mill today...until that torrential shower at about 1.30pm! I bet a few were caught out by that!

Horses, humans and ducks soaking up the sunshine!

The Steve Hillman camera even got into Furness Academy this week...great views from their mezzanine too!

Don't forget our World war 1 commemorative event on the 26th June...everyone welcome as long as you are in period dress!!
