1st November 2012

It looked really nice and sunny this morning so we set off to the Abbey quite early- it was 4 degrees on the car thermometer, and the sky over towards Black Combe looked leaden but it was blue sky and white clouds over the Abbey. Unfortunately, there was a torrential downpour as we arrived, so we went into town to do our shopping first, and came back at 11pm, when it was blustery but brilliant sunshine again- Frankie looks like he is sulking here- he is!!

Beautiful sunny views today-got this by following the sandstone steps that lead off the road just before the railway bridge.

Yay! We finally caught the robin that has been hiding from us all week. We could hear it warning us but they move very erratically and don't like to pose for the camera. My mum thinks there is only one robin in Barrow, so this must be the same one that comes to her garden AND to ours!

You can't get to this little arch, but it seems to be crossing the Red River just behind the Abbey Mill cafe. I can't work out what it is there for....was it part of an old bridge?.....is it part of the original Abbey buildings?

More lovely autumnal views, and all are a five minute drive from Barrow town centre- I do wonder why more people don't come and visit. We have one of those yellow passes that lets local people into the actual Abbey buildings without having to pay, so we are planning to go inside at least once this weekend. Looking through the railings today, there were a lot of areas of standing water, so it will be very soggy, but that all adds to the fun!!
